Then if you open this new file in final draft it should open and save relatively quickly. This is a common issue when Microsoft Defender is activated on your Windows computer with software that is not “well-known” even though the software and organization are are certified. Then close the program to make sure it's cache is empty, reopen the native (non-final draft) file and export it to final draft. The best way to get a fresh file that doesn't take forever to load is to use a software that's final draft compatible (highland, fade in, writer duet, etc.) import the final draft file then save it in the other softwares new format. When you try to copy the whole thing and repaste, behind the scenes Final Draft actually transfers over the raw fdx XML from your saved file (as opposed to doing a true copy and paste) and so it doesn't actually give you a "fresh" document. Things that I've found cause this are passing between computers with different operating systems (either windows to Mac or also different versions of Mac OS and windows), using the script note feature, adding but then erasing revision marks, and changing the font of the whole document after writing it in a different font partway through. (what's really happening for the tech heads out there is the XML nesting gets really really complicated and hard for the software to parse). This happens a lot with Final Draft especially over time.
